Lakeland Equestrian: Operative Care

Lakeland Equestrian has the facilities to offer a high standard of care in a sterile environment for operational procedures. The yard has been recommended on a number of occasions when horses have needed operations or special care but do not have suitable facilities at their own premises.

The large boxes used are completely sterilized with full rubber matting, making it a safe environment, large enough for vets to work comfortably and with good lighting. 24hr supervision is carried out to monitor the horses closely by Matthew and Faye living on site only 5yrds from the stables.
The boxes have CCTV which the owners can link into and watch their horse’s recovery.

Having the facilities of a sand pen, flat turn our paddock and horse walker all benefits the recovery of the horses by encouraging mobility and strengthening with out having the risk of further injury by turning out in a large field.

We have had a few horses in livery that are recovering from lameness and the owners do not have the time to commit to the recovery process. Lakeland Equestrian works closely with the vets to build a recovery and fitness programme for each individual horse, daily reports are written with the exercises carried out and results.

Alongside the use of the walker and lunge pen for strengthening and socialising we are lucky enough to be surrounded with quite lanes that the horses enjoy a gentle walk out and a nibble of grass on route to get them moving.

Operative convalescent nursing care for all post surgery requirements is available. The fully trained and knowledgeable staffs carry out nursing care under the direction of your preferred Veterinary Surgeon.
We are fully approved for convalescent nursing care by all the major veterinary practices in the area.

Here at Lakeland Equestrian we have frequent visits from specialist farriers, vets, equine dentists and physiotherapists attending to specific conditions or regular health checks, which is particularly important for sports horses where peak physical conditioning and athleticism are vital.

"I would like to thank Lakeland Equestrian, Matthew, Faye and their team who took such good care of my mare Rosie after she tore a ligament. Rosie is my grade A showjumper and I was devastated when she became lame. The Vets were not convinced of a full recovery due to her mileage and age but after discussions of all my options I knew I would not have the time to commit to walking her out 3 times a day as I had just started a new business. I contacted Matthew to see if he could help. She was first on box rest for a number of weeks which I was worried about her getting stressed but as she was in a stable in the large open plan barn she had plenty to watch to keep her entertained and the team where great with supplying her with toys and grooming her, Matthew's team did everything and more that was asked of them from walks, to horse walker to lunge to hacking out in the end. I got my horse back ready for competing with in great shape. I would definitely use Lakeland equestrian again"
